Starting Salary Range

Phlebotomy Tech $11.30 - $16.90 per hour

Competencies

Training includes:

  • Basic Phlebotomy skills
  • Preparation for the ASCP certification exam

Requirements

Candidate needs to meet one of the following 3 requirements:

  • Current CNA I registry listing, OR
  • Successful completion of State approved NA1 course, OR
  • Patient care experience (i.e. Nurse, CMA, EMT, Med Office Assistant) with a letter of recommendation on letterhead from a clinical professional who supervised student’s work in a direct patient care role

Additional Requirements

  • CPR (AHA) Health Care Provider Certification before clinical
  • Successful completion Math and Reading placement tests
  • Attendance at Phlebotomy Orientation
  • Driver’s License and Social Security Card
  • High school diploma/GED/official transcript

Testing / Orientation (No Charge)

Testing (no charge)

Required for students in:

  • Nursing Assistant I or Nursing Assistant I Examination Preparation
  • Nursing Assistant II
  • Medication Aide
  • Phlebotomy

Testing Locations and Times

  • West Campus, 1300 Bolton Street in Winston Salem, Wednesday at 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. in Room 13  (Room number subject to change)
  • Goodwill on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m.
  • Danbury, Stokes County Government Ctr.  1012 N Main Street Danbury, Mondays at 9 a.m. (593-2811)

Must bring for test

  • Picture ID
  • Social Security card

Required scores are

  • Math 6th grade level
  • Reading 10th grade level

Note:

  • Students that do not meet the required scores may come to the basic skills lab to work on skills for future testing.
  • Students are advised to retain a copy of test scores for future reference.  Test results are kept on file in Health Ed for a limited time.
  • Exemption: Student who passed FTCC CPT exam in the previous three years with at least 55 on Arithmetic and 80 on Reading.

Orientation (no charge)

Required for students in

  • Nursing Assistant I
  • Phlebotomy
  • May also be required for NA2 students who did not receive NA1 training at Forsyth Tech

Good for one year due to changes in student policies and procedures.

Nursing Assistant Orientation:

  • West Campus: See schedule.
  • Northwest Forsyth Center (King):  2nd & 4th Friday through April 24th (8:30 a.m. – 12 noon)
