Medical Unit Secretary

Course description

This program will prepare students for work as a medical unit secretary in a hospital unit or skilled nursing center. The student will develop an understanding of medical terminology, hospital record keeping, and hospital procedures.

Sessions run 17 - 19 weeks, 3 – 5 days per week, offered both day and evenings.

Competencies

Upon successful completion of the program, students will have demonstrated skill in the areas of:
  • Maintain hospital and patient records
  • Maintain and order supplies
  • Communicate necessary information to staff
  • Respond to requests from staff, patients, and families
  • Receptionist and telephone etiquette
  • Hospital procedures
  • Appropriately assist with medical emergencies

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED is required for this class.
