General Educational Development (GED)

The GED testing program is offered by all 58 community colleges in North Carolina, including Forsyth Tech. The cost to students is $25.00. The GED test consists of five tests (Language Arts Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts Reading and Mathematics). Upon attaining minimum standard scores of 410 on each of the 5 tests and a total score of 2250, a high school diploma equivalency is awarded to the student by the State Board of the Community College System.

GED Requirements

  • Students must be at least 16 years old to enroll in any class
  • Students must attend orientation

Orientation Days, Times and Location

  • Monday, through Thursday (4 days) at :
    • 9 a.m. (3 hours each day)
    • 1:30 p.m. (3 hours each day)
    • 6 p.m. (3 hours each day)
  • Room 20 on the West Campus

Orientation Requirements

  • Attend all four days in order to enter the program.
  • Attend same time session each day
  • Late arrivals will not be admitted

Documents that must be brought to orientation:

  • Social Security Card (signed) (copies not accepted)
  • Government or state issued photo ID (no school or work ID's accepted)
  • If applying for Adult High School: High School Transcript from last high school attended

Minors (Ages 16 & 17) must bring:

  • Social Security Card (signed) (copies not accepted)
  • Government or state issued photo ID (no school or work ID's accepted)
  • Minor Release Form - GED/AHS  (Requires notarized signature of parent or guardian.  This minor release form is for Adult High School/GED students ONLY.)

Forms may be downloaded or picked up in Room 111 on West Campus.
