Auto Structural Repair

This is a 48- hour course that instructs the student in various skills involved in the repair of major auto crash damage that includes; Frame straightening and repair, panel replacement, steering repair and alignment, window replacement and other skills.

Prerequisite: Prospective students must have completed Intro to Auto Body Repair and Auto Body Repair.

Occupation Description

Auto structural repair technicians have the skills to repair damage from collisions. These skills are needed to work for auto dealer and private body shops. These skills are normally at a higher level than standard auto body repair and pay at a higher level.

Careers Available

Careers are available at new and used auto dealers, private auto repair facilities and would allow the student the possibility to be self employed.

Entry-Level Salary

Entry-level salary range - $24,000 to $32,000 per year

Learning Objectives

Students will learn the needed skills hands on experience using the tools required for structural repair such as gas and MIG welding and use of a frame machine. Work will be performed on actual live projects.

Recommended Courses and Skills

Students must have completed Intro to Auto Body Repair and Auto Body Repair. Both ARC and MIG welding offered by FTCC Continuing Education/Goodwill would be useful.

Helpful Personal Attributes

Should have the ability to work in a team environment, be organized, detail-oriented and problem solving. Mechanical ability is very important.
