This is a 96- hour course that instructs the student in various skills involved in the repair of auto body damage that includes; panel replacement, dent repair, plastic body filler shaping and sanding. Priming and painting prep is included, but no auto painting at this time.
Prerequisite: Prospective students must have completed Intro to Auto Body Repair.
Occupation Description
Auto body repair technicians have the skills to repair damage from auto accidents. These skills are needed to work for auto dealer and private body shops.
Careers Available
Careers are available at entry level in new and used auto dealers, private auto repair facilities.
Entry-Level Salary
Entry-level salary range - $20,000 to $24,000 per year
Learning Objectives
Students will learn the needed skills by hands on experience using the tools required for auto body repair such as gas and MIG welding and shaping/sanding equipment
Recommended Courses and Skills
Students must have completed Intro to Auto Body. Both ARC and MIG welding offered by FTCC Continuing Education/Goodwill would be useful.
Helpful Personal Attributes
Should have the ability to work in a team environment, be organized, detail-oriented and problem solving. Mechanical ability is very important.
