Office Technology

Provides instruction in basic computer operation, keyboarding, Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and employability Skills.  Prepares students for employment in office clerical positions.

Prerequisite: Know how to operate a
computer and a mouse.

Occupation Description

Office assistants are required to have knowledge of office systems and procedures, particularly keyboarding skill and proficiency in computer software programs.  They must be able to input information and data into computers to produce documents such as reports, presentations, and charts.  Office assistants perform a variety of duties such as answering the phone, assisting customers, maintaining financial records, filing, and operating office equipment such as fax machines and copiers.

Learning Objectives

Students will learn the basics of operating the computer and the windows operating system, develop keyboarding and data entry skills, and learn to use Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Access).  Students will also prepare for the job search and learn communication skills.
