Process for 2013- 2014 Back-To-Work  Grant Funded Classes

PRESCREENING
To qualify for a grant funded class, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be unemployed or underemployed (meet 200% of the federal Poverty Guidelines)
  • Military veteran or NC National Guards man or woman
  • Be a resident of North Carolina
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a High School diploma or GED – for all classes
  • Cannot be enrolled in any college curriculum program
  • Meet with Advisor to make course selection

 

***  The application/approval process for grant funded classes takes 2-3 weeks 

 

Step 1:               PLACEMENT TEST – IF TESTING IS REQUIRED FOR YOUR PROGRAM:

  • Monday 1:00 p.m.(except holidays)
  • Or Wednesdays 9:00 a.m.
  • Or Wednesdays 5:30 p.m.
  • Room 18, West Campus, 1300 Bolton Street
  • Test will take approximately 1 ½ hours
  • Bring Social Security Card (original) and Driver’s License or photo ID

 

Step 2:              ATTEND HRD:  ORIENTATION

  • Mondays (except holidays)

9:00 a.m. (session will last 3 hours)

Room 36, West Campus, 1300 Bolton Street

  • Documents to bring to orientation:

Social Security Card (original) and Driver’s License or photo ID

Pay statement (if employed)

Placement test scores

Required documents for specific programs

 

Step 3:  Enroll in KeyTrain and Obtain  Silver Level Career Readiness Certificate (CRC)

 

Step 4:               IF APPROVED, YOU WILL RECEIVE A CALL TO REGISTER FOR CLASS

Students will register at the West Campus Customer Service Center located at 1300 Bolton Street.

Approved Classes

  • Certified Electronics Health Records Specialist (CEHRS)

Must have 10th grade reading and language skills

Must bring memo signed by Nancy Tutterow (734-7767) to orientation

Must show memo and placement test scores to register for class

  • Electrical Lineman (Must complete course enrollment requirements)           
  • Facility Maintenance Technician

Must have 8th grade reading skills & 6th grade math skills

Must bring written approval from Jerry Hobson (734-7726) to

Tech (Levels I, II and  Advanced)

  • Welding (ARC, MIG, TIG)

                        Additional Approved Classes for Veterans Only

  • Emergency Medical Technician
  • Fire Academy
  • Introduction to Medical Terminology (Pharmacy Assistant)*
  • Pharmacy Assistant*

*Only funded if planning to enroll in the Pharmacy Tech curriculum program.
