Yasmeen Chism
Yasmeen Chism came to Forsyth Middle College looking for a different
high school environment. Ambitious and eager, she used the Middle
College style of independent study to work at an accelerated pace. She
finished her high school courses mid-way through her senior year and
took Forsyth Tech college courses during her second semester. All in
all, she graduated with 35 college credits. Here’s what Yasmeen has to
say about Middle College:
“The teaching style is based on the
students and their motivation. The teachers hand out a syllabus and tell
you that you have to be done by the end of the quarter, and you can go
as fast or as slow as you need to go as long as you’re finished by the
end of the quarter. It was the independence that really attracted me.”
“You
are able to bond and connect with your teachers, they’re just not
standing up in front of you lecturing for an hour and a half.”
“I
think Middle College has really allowed me to push myself as far as I
want to go. It’s really helped me when it comes to making choices about
what I want to do in college. Having Forsyth Tech there has really
helped me to go down different avenues and see what I like, and I’ve
enjoyed that a lot.”
