Career Description
This program prepares students to use high frequency sound waves to image the heart and vascular system in the human body. Through a variety of educational experiences including classroom, laboratory and clinical settings the student will obtain the knowledge and experience needed to care for the patient in a variety of clinical settings.
Careers Available
Graduates may find employment in hospitals, physician's offices, mobile services and educational institutions.
Entry-Level Salary
- $44,000 - $58,000/yr.
Course of Study
Course work includes effective communication and patient care skills combined with knowledge of physics, human anatomy, physiology and pathology. All of which are essential to obtaining high quality sonographic images.
Recommended Courses and Skills
Competencies in algebra and biology are required. Strong math and science aptitude is helpful.
Helpful Personal Attributes
Good hand-eye coordination, critical thinking and problem solving skills, sense of responsibility and independence, ability to work with individuals of various ages and degree of illness, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
