Career Description
The Financial Services curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge necessary for employment in the financial services sector of the economy. Students will gain the basic knowledge necessary for employment in the financial services sector.
Careers Available
Graduates may find employment with banks, savings and loans, credit units, insurance companies, brokerage firms, pension benefit companies, realty firms and mortgage companies.
Course of Study
Coursework includes financial planning, real estate, business ethics, business insurance, customer service, accounting, computer applications, business law, business finance and general education courses. Cooperative education opportunities may be available. Related skills are developed through the study of communications, computer applications, financial analyses, critical thinking skills, and ethics.
Recommended Courses and Skills
Strong math background (high school algebra strongly recommended), willingness to adapt to changing technology and an ability to manage detailed projects and work in a team environment.
Helpful Personal Attributes
General awareness of business environment, good decision-making skills, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and computer keyboarding ability.
