Career Description
The Healthcare Management program is designed to prepare students for employment in healthcare business and financial operations. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the application of management principles to the healthcare environment.
Careers Available
Graduates may find employment in healthcare settings including hospitals, medical offices, clinics, long-term care facilities, and insurance companies. Graduates are eligible to sit for various certification exams upon completion of the degree with a combination of a minimum of two years administrative experience.
Entry-Level Salary
- Degree graduates $25,000 - $30,000/yr.
Course of Study
Course work includes healthcare management, medical insurance, long-term care administration, accounting, human resource management, computer applications, medical legal issues, medical terminology, and general education courses. The curriculum places emphasis on planning, directing, and controlling tasks related to healthcare organizational objectives including the legal and ethical environment. Emphasis is placed on the development of effective communications, managerial, and supervisory skills.
Recommended Courses and Skills
Strong math background (high school algebra strongly recommended), willingness to adapt to changing technology and an ability to manage detailed projects and work in a team environment.
Helpful Personal Attributes
General awareness of business environment, good decision-making, oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills and computer keyboarding ability.
