Career Description
This program prepares students to use high frequency sound waves to image internal structures in the human body including abdominal organs, pelvic organs, small parts and the vascular system. Through a variety of educational experiences including classroom, laboratory and clinical settings the student will obtain the knowledge and experience needed to image and care for the patient in a variety of clinical settings.
Careers Available
Graduates may find employment in hospitals, physician’s offices, mobile services, and educational institutions.
Entry-Level Salary
- $44,000 - $58,000/yr.
Course of Study
Course work includes effective communication and patient care skills combined with knowledge of physics, human anatomy, physiology and pathology, all of which are essential to obtaining high quality sonographic images.
Recommended Courses and Skills
Competencies in biology, algebra and physics are required. Strong math and science aptitude is helpful.
Helpful Personal Attributes
Good hand-eye coordination, critical thinking and problem solving skills, sense of responsibility and independence, ability to work with individuals of various ages and degree of illness, strong communication and interpersonal skills.
