Career Description
This program actively involves students in a variety of educational experiences that give them the tools to become skilled healthcare professionals who use radiation to produce diagnostic images of the human body.
Careers Available
Career positions are available for Radiologic Technologists in all aspects of today's healthcare system including comprehensive care medical centers, hospitals, outpatient clinics, mobile x-ray companies, urgent care centers, physicians' offices and industry.
Course of Study
Course work includes clinical rotations to area health care facilities, radiographic exposure, image processing, radiographic procedures, physics, pathology, patient care and management, radiation protection, quality assurance, anatomy and physiology and radiobiology. Students must be CPR certified while enrolled in the program. Graduates of accredited programs are eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists’ national examination for certification and registration as medical radiographers.
Recommended Courses and Skills
Strong basic math and reading background, high school human anatomy, physiology, chemistry, health occupation classes and physics.
Helpful Personal Attributes
Strong math and science aptitude, adaptability and flexibility to many situations, ability to work with individuals of various ages, cultural backgrounds and degrees of illness, empathetic and compassionate with good interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, good analytical and critical thinking skills, and good technological computer skills.
