Bond Funds Would Allow Expansion of Forsyth Tech’s Main Campus

More Classroom Space and Parking Are Critical Needs

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 31, 2008) – The approval today of the inclusion of an educational facility bond referendum on the ballot in November came as welcome news to Forsyth Technical Community College. Passage of the bonds would permit long-needed expansion of the college’s Main Campus at 2100 Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem.

Passage of the referendum would enable Forsyth Tech to add needed classroom space utilizing the addition of the administrative facility and Career Center. It would also provide a new Career Center for the county’s high school students who use it for vocational and advanced placement classes. These facilities are located on land directly adjoining the Forsyth Tech campus.

Forsyth Tech would acquire the property now owned by the school system in a non-financial transfer. Renovation of these buildings as well as funding for a new Career Center and relocation for the administrative offices are estimated at a cost of $62.15 million.

“Even with the off-campus satellite centers we opened in recent years, Forsyth Tech is bursting at the seams,” said President Gary M. Green. “More people will be able to get job training or retraining or a start on a bachelor’s degree.”
