Forsyth Tech Introduces "Park and Ride" Shuttle at Hanes Mall

Forsyth Technical Community College, in partnership with the Winston-Salem Transit Authority (WSTA) and Hanes Mall, will expand parking options for faculty, staff and students this fall through the introduction of a free, off-campus "Park and Ride" shuttle service.

The shuttle will run between a designated lot at Hanes Mall and the college's Main Campus at 2100 Silas Creek Parkway. This service will create an additional 200 parking spaces needed to relieve anticipated traffic congestion resulting from double-digit increases in student enrollment.

The shuttle service begins on Monday, August 24, the first day of classes for the fall semester. It will run every 20 minutes from 7 am until 2 pm, Monday through Friday, between a parking area near O'Charley's at Hanes Mall and the Technology Building on the college’s Main Campus.

"We have literally run out of parking spaces on Main Campus due to the huge increase in our student enrollment," said Ken Jarvis, Manager of Facilities and Construction. "We are grateful for the cooperation of Hanes Mall and WSTA to help us meet the urgent need we have to make available additional parking options to our faculty, staff and students."

The shuttle seating capacity is 35, with additional standing room space. A valid Forsyth Tech parking decal is required on vehicles parked in the designated lot at Hanes Mall, and riders must show their Forsyth Tech ID to the WSTA driver in order to board the shuttle.

The "Park and Ride" shuttle service is scheduled to run from August 24 through September 25 but may be extended based on need.
