Financial Aid Application Process

The purpose of financial aid is to provide assistance in the form of grants, scholarships, and employment that will help you and your family with educational expenses such as tuition, fees, books, and supplies. The college will make every effort within available financial aid resources to assure that you will not be denied the opportunity to attend college because of a lack of funds to help meet educational expenses.

You may apply for federal, state, and institutional financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may choose one of the following methods to apply:

Online – You may apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Forsyth Tech's School Code is 005317 and must be listed on the FAFSA.

With A Paper Application – If you would prefer to print out and mail in your application, a PDF FAFSA is available. It must be mailed to the address printed on the FAFSA application. If you do not have internet access, you may obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1.800.4.FED-AID.

You will need the following information when completing the FAFSA:

  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your parents' Social Security Number if you are a dependent student
  • Your Federal Income Tax Return and W-2s
  • Your parents' Federal Income Tax Return and W-2s if you are a dependent student
  • Untaxed income records such as social security benefits, child support, and welfare, for example

The FAFSA may be completed at any time during the year; however, priority processing dates for each semester are listed below.

Deadline Dates:

Summer 2012

Friday, March 30, 2012 - Deadline to have completed the FAFSA and have all requested documents returned to the Office of Student Financial Services.  Students should continue to complete FAFSA applications and turn documents into the financial aid office after Friday, March 30; every effort will be made to award students who miss the deadline date.

Fall 2012

Friday, June 1, 2012 - Deadline to have completed the FAFSA and have all requested documents returned to the Office of Student Financial ServicesStudents should continue to complete FAFSA applications and turn documents into the financial aid office after Friday, June 1; every effort will be made to award students who miss the deadline date.

Spring 2013

Monday, November 26, 2012 - Deadline to have completed the FAFSA and have all requested documents returned to the Office of Student Financial Services.  Students should continue to complete FAFSA applications and turn documents into the financial aid office after Monday, November 26; every effort will be made to award students who miss the deadline date.

Summer 2013

Friday, March 29, 2013 - Deadline to have completed the FAFSA and have all requested documents returned to the Office of Student Financial Services.  Students should continue to complete FAFSA applications and turn documents into the financial aid office after Friday, March 29; every effort will be made to award students who miss the deadline date.

Requested documents should be turned in by the priority processing dates listed above for financial aid awards to be processed and credited to your account before the payment deadline for the next semester.
