Transfer Credits

If you have been accepted into a curriculum degree, diploma, or certificate program, you may transfer credits from other post-secondary institutions in courses comparable in content, objectives, quality, and credit hours to courses offered at Forsyth Tech. Credit is granted for equivalent courses with the grade of "C" or better from other two- and four-year post-secondary institutions accredited by a regional accrediting association. Courses taken on a "pass/fail" basis will be considered only after receiving (in writing from the other institution) the requirements necessary to receive a "pass" grade.

It is your responsibility to provide an official copy of the transcript for which you wish to have credit evaluated. Copies of transcripts or faxes will not be accepted for evaluation purposes.

Credits transferred from other colleges will be reflected on your transcript as hours earned and will not be used in the computation of grade point averages. A grade of "TR" will be given to show that the course was transferred from another college.

Some courses with a technical or skill content have time limitations on the acceptance of transfer credit. This includes credits earned at Forsyth Tech as well as other post-secondary institutions. The department chairs determine the specific time limitations. In such instances, you may complete proficiency examinations, when appropriate and available, to receive credit for those courses.

If you are dissatisfied with the transfer credit granted, you should send a written request for reevaluation to the college transfer technician. After consulting with the appropriate division dean and department chair, they will notify you of the final decision on transfer credit to be granted. If the college transfer technician has a question about the granting of transfer credit, you may be asked to provide additional supporting documentation, such as a course description or syllabus. In this case, the college transfer technician, the registrar, and the appropriate instructional dean and department chair will make the final decision
