College students participate in ‘Cardboard Boat Regatta’ at Belews Lake

The rain didn’t stop some boaters from taking to Belews Lake Friday morning, but these weren’t just any boaters or your typical boats.

These were students from the mechanical engineering technical program at Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem for the annual “Cardboard Boat Regatta.”

The program has been taking cardboard boats to the water for more than 40 years to test the limits of cardboard, duct tape, glue and the students’ imagination.

Fine Arts Students Put On A Fine Art Show

An Associate in Fine Arts is a college transfer degree for Forsyth Tech students interested in pursuing a career as a visual artist, musician, theater artist, or art/music/theater educator. The program has an interdisciplinary approach that allows students to take a variety of courses in art, drama and music. The program has doubled in size since it was started at the college three years ago, going from 50 to 100 students.
