CT Imaging Technology – Program Detail

Program Overview

The CT Imaging Technology Program provides Technologists credentialed by the ARRT and/or NMTCB in Radiography, Radiation Therapy, or Nuclear Medicine Technology the ability to satisfy the required structured education and clinical experience needed to pursue ARRT postprimary certification in Computed Tomography.

The Structured Education Certificate (SEC) is a selective admission, curriculum based, part-time, online certificate completed in two semesters and satisfies the ARRT requirement for a minimum of 16 hours of structured education in the content categories of patient care, safety, image production, and procedures.  Students are admitted in Fall, Spring, and Summer Semesters

The CT Clinical Experience course, offered through Economic Mobility & Workforce Development, provides the ability to earn the clinical experience needed, including documented proof and verification of exams performed, and satisfies the ARRT requirement for CT Clinical Experience.  Students choose their clinical site and work with the site to create their clinical work schedule.

Individuals completing the SEC and the Clinical Experience Course are eligible to pursue the ARRT postprimary certification exam in CT.

Program Mission

Program Goals

  • Provide eligible Technologists with a high-quality learning experience based on the ASRT Computed Tomography Curriculum that satisfies the ARRT structured education requirement needed to pursue ARRT postprimary certification in Computed Tomography.
  • Provide eligible Technologists with a unique and flexible, guided pathway to earn the clinical experience that satisfies the ARRT clinical experience requirement needed to pursue ARRT postprimary certification in Computed Tomography.

Clinical Course Information

The CT Clinical Experience course is offered through Economic Mobility & Workforce Development and provides the ability to earn the required clinical experience, including documented proof and verification of exams performed, needed to pursue ARRT postprimary certification in Computed Tomography.

Students select the clinical facility where they will complete their clinical experience.  Sites can be selected from a list of approved clinical affiliates or submit a request for site for approval.  Program faculty will guide the student through the process of site approval which includes the signing of a Clinical Affiliation Agreement.  Students then work with their clinical site to create a schedule that each approves.

Clinical Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

All Clinical Compliance and Onboarding Requirements are completed prior to entering the CT Clinical Experience Course.

The student is responsible for submitting all required clinical compliance documentation by the required deadline(s) to the current online compliance tracking system contracted by the College.  The student is responsible for all fees associated with the completion of Clinical Compliance Requirements.

The following Clinical Compliance and Onboarding Requirements must be met to enter any clinical setting:

  1. Student Medical Form and Required Immunizations
    There are significant health screening requirements that must be met before entering the clinical setting.  Each student is required to submit a Forsyth Tech Student Medical Form completed and signed by a medical professional proving the student is compliant with all vaccination and titer requirements listed below.  The completed Student Medical Form and any additional supporting documentation is submitted through the online compliance tracking system as part of the clinical onboarding process.
  2. IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
    Tdap/Td Total of 1 vaccination within the last 10 years
    MMR Total of 2 vaccinations

    OR

    Lab report showing positive blood titer results for measles, mumps, and rubella

    Varicella Total of 2 vaccinations

    OR

    Lab report showing positive blood titer

    Tuberculin (TB) Test Negative results of 2 TB skin tests within the last 12 months (must be administered at least 7 days apart)

    OR

    Negative results of 1 serum blood test (ex. QuantiFERON, T. Spot, IGRA) within the last 12 months

    OR

    Negative chest x-ray within the past five years for students who have a history of positive skin tests with written evaluation by healthcare provider for signs and symptoms within the last 12 months if x-ray is over 1 year old

    Influenza Annual seasonal influenza vaccination required in mid-fall/winter
    Hepatitis B Total of 3 vaccinations

    OR

    Lab report showing positive blood titer

    OR

    Signed Hepatitis B Vaccination Waiver

    COVID Moderna or Pfizer (2 doses total)
    OR
    Johnson & Johnson (1 dose)
  3. Background Check and Drug Screen
    Clinical agencies require criminal background check and drug screen for all students assigned to their facility for clinical education.  In addition, national and/or state registry and/or licensure boards may prohibit eligibility for registry or licensure based on criminal background records.  The student will receive information on how to complete the criminal background check and drug screen prior to entering their clinical facility.  The student must use the approved online compliance system to complete the background check and drug screen requirements. The clinical facility reviews the results and provides clearance to enter the clinical setting.

  6. Professional Malpractice Insurance
    The cost of malpractice insurance is $18 and paid when registering for the CT Clinical Experience course.  Forsyth Technical Community College also maintains medical professional liability insurance.
  7. Clinical Compliance
    Students must be compliant with all required documentation and submit all clinical compliance requirements by required deadline(s).
