Technical Standards for IT- Web Technologies

Our program technical standards have been developed to help students understand nonacademic standards, skills, and performance requirements expected of a student in order to complete this particular curriculum.If an accommodation is necessary to participate in the program, it is imperative to identify a reasonable accommodations to those students who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Reasonableness is determined by Accessibility Resources and the program on a case-by-case basis utilizing the program technical standards. The accommodation needs to be in place prior to the start of the program, or it may delay your ability to start the program. It is the student’s responsibility to contact Accessibility Resources and request accommodations.

Skills Description Specific Examples
Motor Skills Students need to be able to use peripheral devices to communicate with a computer. These can be fine motor skills such as completing tasks associated with (but not limited to):

  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Pen or stylus
Vision Students need to be able to access material either printed or in electronic formats.
  • Students participate in webinars, as well as following in-class lectures on the white boards.
  • Need to be able to access both printed and eBook materials.
Hearing Students need to be able to communicate with the instructor and other students.
  • Listen for guided instructions.
  • Listen to other student questions.
Technological Students need to have basic computer skills.
  • Be able to turn on a computer.
  • Know the basic parts of a computer such as a keyboard, mouse and display screen.
Communication Students need to be able to present ideas and create presentations to convey those ideas. They need to make sure others understand what they have presented.
  • Work as a professional group member
  • Effectively present information to panels of instructors and advisory boards, in both verbal and written form
  • Be able to effectively communicate with peers, faculty, staff and members of the community
Critical Thinking/ Problem Solving Students should be able to make reasoned judgments that are logical and well-thought out.
  • Interpret user requirements to design a workable solution for the user.
  • Develop practical judgements in a simulated environment
  • Develop practical judgements in a lab environment
Interpersonal Skills
  • Be able to get along with persons from diverse backgrounds in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Be able to propose and present ideas and achieve buy-in, consensus and decisions.
  • Be able to follow directions of instructors, fellow students and potential/actual clients.
  • Group projects that require interaction with peers, including online interaction and the interpretation of written communication
  • Accept feedback on projects and adapt to changing project scope. Know how to ask for help when needed.
  • Interact with faculty, staff and administration with the ability to follow directions and comprehend constructive criticism
  • Display emotional stability
Environmental Tolerance Students should be able to adapt to changing environments.
  • Classes might change to online, if weather dictates, or schedules might dictate a night course instead of a day course.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations

Meeting these technical standards does not guarantee employment in this field upon graduation. Ability to meet the program’s technical standards does not guarantee a student’s eligibility for any licensure, certification exam, or successful completion of the degree program.
