I just attended the WOW Your Customers session led by Gianna Clark at the Small Business Center. It was fantastic. Before you can delight your customers you must offer the must haves then provide satisfaction. Very valuable!

The small business center, SBC, of Forsyth Technical Community College located on Vine Street in Winston Salem, North Carolina is undeniably a beacon for success to small business owners. As a newly acquired entrepreneur, I have found that the courses provide knowledge and key points on how to create, start up, build, and manage a successful business. Some of these courses are taught on campus at the SBC and others are taught off site. There are also networking opportunities hosted by the mentors, students, and graduates of the sessions. If I could summarize the SBC into one word it would be “awesome!

The Small Business Center has helped me tremendously with preparing the launch of my business. I had the opportunity to participate in the Launch Challenge, in which I was able to meet multiple different mentors that specialize in start-ups, business plans, marketing, legal issues, etc. I also attended classes at that the Small Business Center and while there, I learned how to narrow down my target population, how to get my first customer, and most importantly the basics of starting a business.

The Small Business Center changed my life forever. I had no idea that you could receive so much support for expanding an already existing 501c3 and find more connections. I was referred to the Small Business Center by a person who had used their services in the past and was very pleased with the results he received. I went to one roundtable event held at the Enterprise Center. I went from 15 connections to hundreds of connections such as Venture Cafe, SWERVE, and many more by attending as many SBC events that I could fit into my schedule. I now have an expanded wealth of knowledge of information and research and connection skills. This makes it so easy for organizations that struggle with the low numbers of people they can serve due to limited funds for resources materials and people to serve in the communities in need. I have access to computers and rooms to have meetings with clients, help with finding funding and resources, and (best of all) free business mentoring from professionals in many areas of expertise. This is for people who want to be in business in any way shape or form. The Small Business Center at Forsyth Tech Community College is one of Winston Salem’s best kept secrets. Secret no more!

The Forsyth Tech Small Business Center is not only a wonderful resource for new and start-up businesses, but also for established businesses such as my own. Having been in business since 2000, I find that the events and networking opportunities available are very helpful in generating new customers, meeting new people and learning how to better run my business. You are never too old (or too established) to learn new things and anyone in business for themselves would be a fool if they didn’t take advantage of all the great things available at the Small Business Center.
Sincerely,

As for many small business owners, I was looking for someone to help me leverage & grow my business. I knew soon, I wanted and needed to expand the salon, but did not know how. The Forsyth Tech Small Business program definitely gave me the tools to do so. They educated me on business plan writing, structuring my business such as incorporating and credit readiness. Forsyth Tech Small Business also gave me resources for funding such as SBA, Personal Savings, bank loans, crowdfunding and angel investors. They also informed me on the importance of consistent marketing and advertising for your business. Ideas such as custom business cards, website, and professional social media pages. Once completing the 6 modules, I received a certificate for completing the small business program. I am so grateful to have Forsyth Tech Small Business by my side during the salon expansion journey.

The concept of Beautiful Queen Enterprise has been stuck in my head for almost two years. I eventually talked myself into sending a message to the SBC. Even though I sent the message over Christmas, I received a response back from Allan Younger. I was like, “This must be meant for me to do!” Since January 2015, Beautiful Queen Enterprise, has grown from an idea into manifestation. I am so happy to have met everyone here. This is really a close knit community. Everyone wants to see others succeed and I love that! Thank You for all that you do.

I’ve attended several classes at Forsyth Tech at Innovation Quarter and highly recommend this organization for intense, short-term training. For example, I attended a LinkedIn clinic and developed my LinkedIn site, posted comments, learned how to invite colleagues to my page, and developed (and changed) my profile in a three-hour time-frame. Many of the Courses/Workshops are hands-on in front of a computer allowing participants to follow the instructor and leave with an actual product or products. On another occasion, I met with an SEO expert and obtained valuable information to launch my first children’s picture book on Kindle. If you’re looking for one-on-one counseling or classes to advance your business expertise, Forsyth Tech at Innovation Quarter is the go-to place.

One scenario where the adage “the failure to plan is a plan for failure” is absolutely true is that of starting and growing a small business. The curriculum, the instructors, the one-to-one counseling available at the SBC are all integral parts in what is clearly a plan designed to help its clients achieve success! I appreciate that the mindset that permeates every course offered at the SBC which says that all business success is anchored in great relationships and that both business owners and customers/clients/ consumers can have a win-win experience. Additionally, I love that this information and education is available to everyone regardless of one’s business acumen or level of experience. The knowledgeable, accessible, and enthusiastic staff at the SBC continually demonstrate their commitment to supporting small business owners.
I spend time at The Small Business Center because it is an environment in which I thrive! The first time I stepped through the doors, it was clear that my success as a small business owner and entrepreneur was a priority for the staff. This is the place where my dream of becoming a successful business owner evolved into an action plan. I continue to come here because the people, resources, and connections are first-class!

Deciding to purchase Black Mountain Chocolate with my husband, Brent, a tax attorney, is a Second Act for us. I had no retail experience before opening up our retail shop in Reynolda Village in November 2013. My 10 one-on-one counseling sessions with Allan Younger were invaluable. Our business involves marketing, finance and production—we can’t be experts in all of them, so that’s why I consulted with Allan.”

I enjoy the atmosphere created by staff at the SBC. A great customer experience goes beyond product to include an enjoyable interaction with staff. Do staff obviously get along and make it plain that they enjoy being there? Is there a sense of fun at your location? Positive customer experience beyond the product or service can be the piece that sets your company apart from the competition.

The Small Business Center is helping me realize and live my dream of entrepreneurship. The classes, have helped me understand the importance of social media and marketing strategies to steer my business into the virtual market place and the next level. The one on one counseling, has been such a help; mentoring me, as I strive to make my business self-sufficient and productive.
I would like to thank the Small Business Center for the support I was able to receive which is enabling the growth of my business. I received information from the Piedmont Triad Regional Council about the opportunity for small businesses to hire employees for six month paid internships in conjunction with the workforce development board. Thanks to the Small Business Center I was able to house my employees and work out of the small business center. This enabled me to efficiently market my business with the aid of my employees. We recently held a two performances of Angels With Out Wings. Both shows were well received and attended and one was OVERSOLD! Everything that my fledgling company has accomplished would not have been possible without the support and assistance which I have received from the Small Business Center.
