Forsyth Tech Community College. A place of promise. President's Message. Dr. Janet N. Spriggs.

Greetings faculty and staff!

On the eve of the 2020 presidential election, I want to take a moment to acknowledge where we are in time. I took a few moments to record this short video for you to watch.

This year has been extraordinary, and Election 2020 has definitely stayed on brand with what has proven to be a remarkable and extraordinary election season, to go along with such an unprecedented year.

Watching the news and seeing posts on social media, it feels like this election season has been stressful to most people. I think it is safe to say our nation is politically divided and the tension building around tomorrow’s election is bound to affect every one of us.

As members of the Forsyth Tech community, I ask in this moment, we all be mindful of our school’s core values of excellence, learning, innovation, diversity, and integrity.

No matter the outcome of the election – which its possible we may not even know on November 3 – some will be pleased, and some will be disappointed. Emotions are likely to be running high on all sides.

No matter which side wins, I hope we will all demonstrate compassion for those who believed differently yet were equally passionate about their beliefs.

I am reminded of the words of Winston Churchill who said, “Democracy is not the best system, but I do not know of a better one.”

We may not agree with one another, but we owe it to our college and to our students – for whom we are some of the strongest role models – to uphold our values and model good behavior – and to treat every member of this community with the respect and civility we all deserve.

Let me also remind you that in times of great stress, we all need to know how to care for ourselves. At Forsyth Tech, we have resources available to you and our students to help you deal with the many challenges this year has brought to the forefront. Please see additional information below about those resources for faculty, staff, and students below.

Thank you all for everything you do every day to enrich the lives of our students and our community, and thank you for all that you do to make Forsyth Tech a place of promise for everyone. Take care, stay safe, and be well.

Warm Regards,

Dr. Janet Spriggs

Forsyth Technical Community College has provided the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for a number of years to full-time faculty and staff. This year, The North Carolina Community College System is providing a valuable benefit to all students and their immediate family members known as the Student Assistance Program (SAP). Through a partnership with McLaughlin Young Group, an independent provider of SAP services, there is no enrollment required students are eligible to use the SAP now through June 30, 2021.

The EAP and SAP offer help for personal, professional or school concerns by providing free, confidential, short-term counseling and personal consultation. Additionally, they provide student-life resources for such issues as legal and financial consultation, online learning and resources.

The EAP and SAP have a network of counselors that are conveniently located. They can help you improve or resolve personal difficulties whether big or small, personal, or school-related. If you are aware of any part-time staff members that are taking classes at Forsyth Tech during this time, they are eligible for SAP as well.
