Playing To Learn

The Forsyth Tech LAB School play room

Keep your eyes open for a new child care program that stimulates growth and development on Forsyth Tech’s main campus. The Early Childhood LAB School in the Oak Grove Center welcomes preschoolers aged 3 to 5.

Operating Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon, the program provides Forsyth Tech early childhood education students with observation and teaching experience.

“Our vision for this teaching facility has been 15 years in the making,” explains Karatha Scott, the LAB School coordinator. “This program represents an investment in the future, as most of our students will get jobs in our local community after graduation.” Two certified teachers with strong backgrounds in early childhood education give children quality, nurturing care in a stimulating environment. They also supervise, coach and mentor early childhood education students during their on-site internship.

The preschool’s daily curriculum consists of art, music, math, science, language and literacy, and technology. The kids engage in fun, educational activities, such as gardening, block building and construction, creative arts, books, assembling puzzles, matching and sorting objects, and playing interactive educational games on a computer.

The LAB School charges a one-time registration fee of $75 and tuition of $300 per month per child for the program, which accepts a maximum of 15 children.
