Mission Statement

The Reading/Writing Center (RWC), located in ARD 218 on the second floor of the Ardmore Building on the main campus, provides students help with reading and writing for any course via drop-in tutoring for quick help or one-on-one tutoring for more personalized and involved help. The Center’s tutors guide students through all steps of the reading and writing processes, as well as guide students through learning strategies to improve success. Tutors do not edit papers, help students complete homework, or provide students direct answers with classwork. Instead, they help students understand areas and skills in which they are struggling, so that students can complete writing, homework, and classwork on their own. Students may schedule an appointment through TutorTrac in TechLink. If students need assistance with this, they can drop-in the RWC, and they will guide you through how to make an appointment.

Appointment Policy and FAQ

How many appointments may I make?

Students may make an appointment online via TutorTrac, which they can find under “My Bookmarks”, after they have signed in to Techlink.

Can I schedule back-to-back appointments?

No, students cannot schedule back to back appointments. All appointments are 50 minutes long. Students may have two appointments a week. Students who would like to stay in the center to use the computers for schoolwork purposes are welcome to drop-in or stay after their appointment.

When may I cancel appointments?

Students may cancel an appointment at any time up until 24 hours before the scheduled appointment start time without penalty. Students who cancel less than 24 hours in advance are considered “no-shows” and will be held accountable to the cancellation policy. Just visit TutorTrac to cancel. Cancelling early allows other students to sign up for the available appointment time.

What happens if I miss an appointment or attempt to cancel right before my scheduled time?

If a student is more than ten (10) minutes late for their appointment, they lose the exclusive rights to that appointment, and the session may be given to a drop-in student.

After two (2) missed appointments, late cancellations, or “no-shows,” students will be placed on a waiting list for appointments for the rest of the eight (8) week session. However, students who are waitlisted may still take advantage of the drop-in sessions available in the Reading & Writing Center.

Students who cancel less than 24 hours in advance are considered “no-shows” and will be held accountable to the cancellation policy.*

Will the Reading & Writing Center edit or fix a paper for me?

In our mission to assist students in becoming better writers and self-editors, we take pride in assisting students in editing their papers. We will not edit a paper for a student; however, we will assist students in making changes and generating ideas through discussions on grammar, mechanics, and formatting.
