Forsyth Tech currently offers three pathways to guide you in either getting your journey into HR started, or continuing the journey with courses designed to award continuing education credits for recertification.
Foundations of Human Resources Management
Foundations of Human Resources Management This program lays the foundation for those beginning a career in HR. Although encouraged, it is not necessary to complete all five classes in succession. Once all five classes are completed successfully a Certificate of Completion is awarded.
SHRM Exam Preparation
SHRM Exam Preparation This course is designed for those individuals currently working in the HR field and are ready to prepare for SHRM-CP or SCP certification. There are eligibility requirements before one can take the exam and it is administered by the Society of Human Resources Management.
Intermediate and Advanced HR Courses
Intermediate and Advanced HR Courses In addition to the above programs, Forsyth Tech offers both intermediate and advanced courses in HR. Any of the classes in the Foundations of HR Management program, the SHRM Exam Prep, or the intermediate/advanced courses are eligible for continuing education credit, generally used for recertification but are excellent on their own.
Creating a Coaching Culture Learn how to make the business case for a more developmental management approach at your company.
SHRM Specialty Credentials
SHRM Specialty Credentials You can now earn a credential that designates you as a subject matter expert in your field. Earning a Talent Acquisition credential will demonstrate the critical role you play in attracting and retaining the key to every organization’s success – talent. With a People Analytics credential you will be recognized for your knowledge and ability to leverage people-related data and analytics to influence business decisions and make data-based recommendations.

Instructor Bios
Ken Crews
Is a senior human resources professional who brings over 35 years of human resources and operations management experience across industries such as manufacturing, supply chain, technology and consumer products. Currently the Vice President, Human Resources at Lexington Home Brands, he has also held leadership positions at Inmar and Douglas Battery Manufacturing Company.
Ken has a MBA degree from the Walker School of Business at Appalachian State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Relations/Political Science from UNC-Chapel Hill. He holds certifications as a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
Barry Brown
Barry Brown has 19 years of human resources experience. He has been employed at various levels of human resources, with increasing levels of responsibility. He is currently employed by Acucote, Inc. as Human Resources Director.
Barry has a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University. Barry has taught the SHRM Essentials course at Forsyth Technical Community College. Barry received his PHR in 2000 and SPHR in 2004. He is a member of the local SHRM Chapter, having served as president in 2004.
