Starting in August 2016, Forsyth Tech will offer Weekend College, a program designed for adult students who work full time while studying for their AA degree. “Many adult students are employed full time, and some have to travel during the week,” says Anu Williams, Department Chair, Humanities, Communication and Fine Arts. “To carry a full course load, they may need to take classes three or four evenings a week. That isn’t possible for everyone.”
With Weekend College, students take two classes on Friday evening followed by two classes Saturday morning. If they take this full course load without a semester break, they could complete an AA degree in two or two and a half years with this program. The curriculum is made up of hybrid courses, which means that more than half of all coursework is done online. The hybrid format also makes earning a degree more attainable for students balancing college and their job.
For the time being, the program is aimed primarily at students who want to earn a general AA degree and plan to transfer later to a four-year institution.
