Career Description
The Early Childhood Education Associate curriculum prepares individuals to work with children from infancy through middle childhood in diverse learning environments. Students will combine learned theories with practice in actual settings with young children under the supervision of qualified teachers.
Careers Available
Students entering this program will have the opportunity to specialize in areas unique to their particular interests through the certificate programs available. Certificate programs are available in literacy, early childhood, infant and toddlers, and child care administration.
Entry-Level Salary
- $17,000 - $22,000/yr.
Course of Study
The original AAS degree in early childhood education is a 67 credit hour degree. There is a basic core 32 credit hours of required early childhood courses. In addition to the early childhood core courses, the degree includes 21-24 credit hours of general education courses depending upon individual course selections. Seven additional hours of early childhood classes are included as local requirements.
Recommended Courses and Skills
High school algebra I, computer skills and CPT testing.
Helpful Personal Attributes
Good motivation to work with children ages 0-12, good judgment and a sense of responsibility, ability to work as a member of a team, possess good oral and written and communication skills.
