What You’ll Learn
Forsyth Tech offers three practical training paths. You can begin your HR journey with the Foundations of Human Resources Management Training Certificate program, prepare for the SHRM Examination as a mid-career professional, or earn SHRM Specialty Credentials to become a designated expert on a subject in your field. Continue to grow and earn recertification with intermediate and advanced elective courses in HR.

SHRM Exam Prep
SHRM Exam Prep is offered in spring and fall.
Establish yourself as a recognized HR expert! Prepare for the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) exam in time for the spring or fall testing window, live and online via Zoom.
Offered in cooperation with the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM), students will have access to the SHRM Learning System, which includes comprehensive study materials, practice exams, and interactive tools.

Compensation & Benefits
This course introduces participants to the latest tools and techniques for designing, implementing, and administering legal wage, salary, and benefits programs.
The course covers health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, and the legal aspects of compensation and benefits. Techniques for analyzing and evaluating these programs will be discussed, ensuring participants can effectively manage and optimize their organization’s compensation strategies.
Participants will learn about job evaluation methods, pay structures, and incentive plans.

Employee Relations
This course focuses on managing the relationships between employers and employees.
The course highlights the importance of these aspects in fostering a positive work environment.
Additionally, it covers Labor Relations, including collective bargaining and union management, and Ethical Practices, ensuring participants understand the ethical considerations in employee relations.
Students will learn to define the six core aspects of employee relations: communication, conflict resolution, employee engagement, performance management, workplace culture, and employee recognition.

Employment Law
This course covers current federal and state employment laws, providing opportunities for discussion on strategies for compliance.
Topics include Equal Employment Opportunity laws, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and both Federal and North Carolina Employment laws. The course also addresses recent legal developments and their implications for employers.
Participants will engage in case studies and discussions to better understand how to navigate the complexities of employment law.

Recruitment, Selection & Planning
This course explores elements of hiring efficiency, including recruitment, selection, interviewing, and human resource planning.
The course covers effective onboarding practices, ensuring a smooth transition for new hires into the organization.
Participants will learn about sourcing strategies, candidate assessment techniques, and best practices for conducting interviews.
Additionally, participants will gain insights into workforce planning and talent management to align hiring practices with organizational goals.

SHRM Essentials of HR Management
Designed for entry-level HR professionals exploring the field as a career, this course covers the major disciplines of Human Resource Management.
Topics include the Evolution of the HR Profession, Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, Performance Management, and Employment Law.
The course also includes practical exercises and case studies to apply HR concepts in real-world scenarios.
Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of HR functions and their strategic importance in organizations.
