The City of Winston-Salem has officially proclaimed Monday, December 15, 2025 as Forsyth Technical Community College Day, recognizing the college’s 65 years of service to the community, students, and regional workforce.
Issued by Mayor Allen Joines, the proclamation honors Forsyth Tech’s founding in 1960 and its long-standing role in expanding access to education and strengthening the economic vitality of Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, and the surrounding region.
“For 65 years, Forsyth Tech has worked to provide high-quality education, workforce training, and student support that helps learners of all ages build meaningful careers,” said Dr. Janet Spriggs, President of Forsyth Tech. “This recognition from the City is a meaningful acknowledgment of the dedication of our students and employees.”
The proclamation notes Forsyth Tech’s growth from an industrial education center into a comprehensive, nationally recognized community college serving thousands of students each year across Forsyth and Stokes Counties. The college offers degree programs, short-term credentials, apprenticeships, continuing education, and customized workforce training aligned with regional needs.
The City also recognized Forsyth Tech’s leadership in student success and economic development through programs such as the Learn and Earn Apprenticeship Program, the College Lift initiative, and partnerships with business and industry that support a strong regional workforce.
Today’s proclamation celebrates the collective efforts of Forsyth Tech’s faculty, staff, students, and leadership, whose work continues to strengthen the local economy and improve quality of life throughout the community.
Forsyth Tech marked this special day with a video celebration at Main Campus, bringing together employees to recognize the City’s honor and reflect on the college’s 65-year legacy of service. You can see the video here.
