Quilting
ConEd
What You’ll Learn
This is not a beginner sewing machine class, but rather, a beginner quilting class that focuses on the necessary techniques to complete a quilt. Bring your sewing machine and supplies, and get ready to sew!
Students must bring their own sewing machine and should know how to use their machine (i.e. thread your machine, wind a bobbin, and sew a straight line).
Build confidence and creativity at your sewing machine in this two-part, hands-on quilting class focused on walking foot techniques and quilt-as-you-go construction.
In the first session, students will explore a variety of walking foot quilting designs on individual quilt sandwiches. This structured, low-pressure approach allows you to experiment with texture, develop control, and gain confidence stitching straight lines, curves, and geometric patterns. In the second session, students will assemble their quilted blocks using a quilt-as-you-go method, which is an efficient and beginner-friendly technique that joins individually quilted sections into a finished quilt without the bulk of quilting a large project all at once.
Outcomes
This class is inspired by Leah Day’s Marvelous Mosaic quilt from her Explore Walking Foot Quilting book, with a finished quilt size of approximately 56″ x 70″ using 20 blocks. Students may choose to create a smaller or larger quilt based on the number of blocks completed. Each class will include instruction followed by hands-on sewing time with guidance. By the end of the course, you’ll have a beautiful quilt to take home.
