Forsyth Tech News
In a captivating display of grit, composure, and relentless heart, the Forsyth Tech volleyball team delivered a signature comeback victory on Thursday night, outlasting Caldwell Tech in a five-set thriller (25-11, 20-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-8). Backed by a loud and passionate crowd inside the Fox Den, the Trailblazers rose to the occasion in the match’s most critical moments, battling back from a 2-1 deficit to earn an unforgettable statement win on their home floor.
Forsyth Tech set the tone early with a blistering performance in the opening set, operating with sharp offensive rhythm and suffocating defense to lock down a dominant 25-11 victory. After the Caldwell Tech Cobras fought to capture sets two (20-25) and three (17-25), the Trailblazers answered the challenge with unwavering resolve. With their backs against the wall in set four, Forsyth Tech regrouped and took command, firing on all cylinders to secure a convincing 25-18 win and push the match to a decisive fifth frame.
With momentum firmly on their side and the home crowd behind them, the Trailblazers seized early control of the tiebreak, maintaining relentless pressure and pulling away for a commanding 15-8 victory to seal the match triumph.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the fight, grit, and togetherness this team put on display tonight,” head coach Sarah Weavil said. “When we faced adversity down 2-1, this group stayed completely connected and trusted each other. The composure we showed to battle back and take that fourth set says everything about our character. The energy from our home fans in the Fox Den was unbelievable, and our team fed off that buzz from start to finish.”
Sophia Blackledge spearheaded the attack with a dominant two-way performance, pacing the floor with a match-high 19 kills on a stellar .311 hitting percentage while anchoring the frontline defense with six blocks. Emma Willard was everywhere across the hardwood, racking up a match-best 22 digs in the back row and delivering constant pressure from behind the service line with five aces. Facilitating the high-powered attack, freshman setter Caitlyn Pope directed the offense with remarkable poise well beyond her years, dishing out a team-high 35 assists to steer the Trailblazers across the finish line.
The Trailblazers return to action Saturday morning in Greensboro for an exhibition contest against NCAA Division III Greensboro College before returning to NJCAA Region 10 play on Tuesday at Guilford Tech.
