Campus Safety
Mission Statement
The mission of the Forsyth Technical Community College Police Department (FTPD) is to serve the college community, protect life and property, and to enforce the law. We support the mission of the college as a partner serving to ensure a safe and secure environment while improving the quality of life for all those learning, working, and visiting within our community.
Message from the Chief

Welcome to the Forsyth Technical Community College Police Department website. It is an honor to serve a campus community that is committed to safety, respect, and student success.
Our department’s primary mission is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. We are dedicated to providing professional law enforcement services while building strong, positive relationships across our campus. We believe that trust and communication are essential to maintaining a safe learning environment.
A key part of our work is our commitment to compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act. We prioritize transparency through accurate crime reporting, timely warnings, and ongoing education, ensuring our community remains informed and empowered. In addition, we provide training and awareness programs related to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), helping to educate our campus on prevention, resources, and support for those affected by interpersonal violence.
We also recognize the importance of engagement and shared responsibility. Programs such as our Building Captain initiative strengthen our partnership with campus departments by promoting preparedness and clear communication during emergencies. Through outreach efforts, safety training, and daily interactions, our officers work to create a visible and approachable presence throughout Forsyth Tech.
Emergency preparedness remains a top priority. We encourage all members of our community to familiarize themselves with our emergency alert systems and response procedures. By participating in drills, training, and awareness efforts, we can all help ensure a coordinated and effective response during critical incidents.
Safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage you to stay aware, report suspicious activity, and take advantage of the many safety resources available to you.
We are proud to serve Forsyth Tech and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you have questions, concerns, or ideas, we welcome your input and encourage you to connect with us.
Thank you for being a valued part of our campus community.
Sincerely,
Carolyn McMackin – Chief of Police

Clery Compliance
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) is a consumer protection law that federally mandates all institutions of higher education who participate in the federal student financial aid program to disclose campus crime statistics and other safety information to current and prospective students and employees. The Clery Act affects virtually all public and private institutions of higher education and is enforced by the U.S. Department of Education (ED).
