Code the Dream and Forsyth Technical Community College announced a partnership this fall, expanding opportunities for Forsyth Tech students to grow their knowledge and skills in tech while earning a degree.

CTD’s web development and data engineering intro classes will count toward a Forsyth Tech degree, and students in those classes will have support from CTD mentors and Forsyth Tech college counselors.

“Our classes are free, remote, and designed to allow flexible scheduling, which we hope will make it easy for Forsyth Tech students to take advantage of this opportunity,” said CTD Co-Executive Director Daisy Magnus-Aryitey. “We’re excited to be part of such a distinctive partnership.”

CTD students will also have the opportunity to turn their CTD classes into Forsyth Tech credits by applying for Credit for Prior Learning through the college’s Software Development department.

The CTD classes currently approved for credit for Forsyth Tech students are Javascript Intro and Python Intro. JavaScript Intro presents programming fundamentals and JavaScript basics to new coders, and Python Intro familiarizes students with fundamentals for data analysis, visualization, and application development.  Both courses pair durable skills with AI experience to meet the needs of a rapidly changing industry.

“Many students face barriers that prevent them from accessing opportunities in tech,” said Magnus-Aryitey. “This partnership is one way to break down those barriers and nurture early-career tech talent in our community.”

Over the last 12 years, more than 2,100 students in 47 states accessed training through CTD. Upon completion of the CTD curriculum, students can apply to the Registered Apprenticeship program, where they work as software developers, gaining real-world experience building technology for CTD clients while applying for jobs. To date, 80% of CTD apprentices hold positions as developers at employers such as Duke University, Amazon, SAS, Deutsche Bank, IBM, and AirBnb, with an average annual salary starting at $90k.

We are thrilled to partner with Code the Dream to continue to expand innovative opportunities to students in Forsyth and Stokes County and beyond,” said Joey Bryant, Department Chair for IT and AI Innovation Fellow at Forsyth Tech.

There are rolling deadlines for Forsyth Tech students to apply for CTD’s JavaScript Intro and Python Intro classes. For more info and to apply, visit codethedream.org/apply.
