At Forsyth Tech, Jillian Scott has found the support she needs to achieve her goals, and she has built a community of friends along the way. Jillian is pursuing an Associate in Arts, Pre-Major in Psychology and thanks to a scholarship from Next NC, she is able to attend Forsyth Tech without the financial stress that often comes with paying for college.

Jillian first attended Forsyth Tech through dual enrollment classes while still at Robert B. Glenn High School. After graduating, she decided to continue at Forsyth Tech — a decision she does not regret. Jillian describes herself as typically shy, someone who tends to prefer quieter, more introverted activities. That changed at Forsyth Tech. “My social network grew seemingly overnight, with friendships that I know will last outside of college,” she said. Jillian was initially worried about making friends, but found the environment welcoming. “The community is one of my favorite things at Forsyth Tech,” she said. “Everyone is friendly and happy to be here”.

Beyond the friendships she has made, the Next NC Scholarship has played a key role in making Jillian’s time at Forsyth Tech possible. The scholarship provides financial aid to North Carolinians, fully covering tuition and fees at any of the state’s 58 community colleges — support that is helping Jillian stay on track toward her goal of becoming a psychologist and, eventually, earning a Ph.D.
