Course Description
This course prepares students for a broad range of skills that make medical assistants versatile and valuable to any healthcare team. Students will learn skills to perform duties from the front office to the back office. Core topics include principles of allied health, anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, medical assistant office procedures, and pharmacology. clinical lab procedures & phlebotomy, clinical procedures, medical law & ethics and communications, advanced laboratory procedures & minor medical office surgeries.

To facilitate these requirements, the Health Sciences Division has enlisted the help of a Compliance Tracking System called “COMPLIO,” which will guide students through the process and assist in keeping their records updated along their career pathway. The fee for this service is $95 for 2 years and can be renewed or transferred between programs, if needed. A direct helpline and video tutorials are available on the site.
You will need:
- One form of identification must be a Driver’s License(not expired) -or- official government-issued signature bearing photo ID.
- Social Security Card (first and last names must match above ID exactly)
- Copy of High School Diploma/GED -or- copy of unofficial college transcript.
- Proof of the following immunizations and vaccinations:
- Tuberculin (TB) Test– Negative results of 2 TB skin tests within the last 12 months (must be administered at least 7 days apart)
–OR– Negative results of 1 serum blood test (QuantiFERON, T. Spot (IGRA)) blood draw within the last 12 months
–OR– Negative chest x-ray within the past 5 years for students who have a history of positive skin tests with written evaluation by healthcare provider for signs and symptoms within the last 12 months if x-ray is over 1 year old
- Annual Flu Shot– for all classes between October and March
- COVID Vaccine– Moderna or Pfizer vaccine (total of 2 doses of original series or 1 dose Bivalent) -OR- Johnson/Johnson vaccine 1 dose.
When you have gathered all the above documents, set up an account with COMPLIO under the CCMA Program using this link http://forsythtechcompliance.com/ . Choose MEDICAL ASSISTING. Once your account is activated, the background check will be initiated, and the drug screen will be scheduled. You will receive an email from COMPLIO to take with you to your drug screening appointment.
Once these steps are completed, you will be allowed to register for your class.
Requirements
This course requires students to participate in a clinical externship.
• High School Diploma/GED/High School Transcript or College Diploma/College Transcript (showing graduation date)
• Picture ID
• Absences/Tardiness are not allowed
• Must register for COMPLIO to register for the course
