Learn how to write in style with Calligraphy. In a class designed for beginners, the Italic alphabet is a popular introduction to the art of the broad edged pen. Students will be offered a step-by-step approach to the basic technique, letter forms, word, line and page spacing of this beautiful and graceful calligraphic hand. The Italic alphabet lends itself to a wide variety of applications. The course can also be used as a refresher.

Drawing: Basic Techniques
Before you begin your masterpiece in acrylic, oil, or watercolor, spend four Tuesday’s with Ginnie Conaway to learn the fundamentals of drawing. You will learn to draw what you see, not what you think you see. Learn to make your shapes appear three dimensional with the use of shading and values. Beginning/Intermediate Drawing

Painting: Acrylic
In this course, you will learn the basic technique of painting with acrylic. Invented by chemist Otto Rohm in 1934, it is a medium that was at first rejected by the art world. The Pop Art movement welcomed acrylic paint and put it through its paces. And so will we. Prepare to experience acrylic’s ability to imitate watercolor’s softness and oil paint’s sharpness, and enjoy its versatility to adhere to almost any support. In each class of this series, honored master artists of the past will be introduced. Demonstrations and group exercises will accompany gracious time for individual exploration. In a lighthearted atmosphere, we will create works that inspire each participating artist.

Stained Glass – All Levels
Beginners explore the qualities of stained glass methods with copper foil or leaded techniques learning fabrication processes of cutting glass, foiling, leading and soldering. Intermediate and advanced participants may explore painting with vitreous paints or fused glass elements as a component to their projects, filigree and/or sandblasting.

Woodworking
First time students will create a footstool using most of the power tools in our carpentry lab (approximately 3 weeks).You will learn about equipment safety, see demonstration of woodworking power machines and enjoy hands on learning.
