Academics
Forsyth Technical Community College offers a wide range of academic programs, organized into several departments, and provides robust academic support services to help students succeed.
Tutoring is located at The Learning Center. FT Main Campus in Ardmore Hall, Room 143 –336.734.7480.
Testing Services is in the Robert L. Strickland Center in Suite 2551. The Testing Center proudly serves Forsyth Tech students and our community by providing a wide range of proctoring services, including:
- Classroom testing (unit, midterms, finals, etc.)
- Distance education examinations for students enrolled at other schools, colleges, universities, and agencies.

GED® records are issued by the state GED® office in Raleigh, regardless of where the student took the GED® exams. Information on how to get a copy of your GED transcript can be found on the NC Community Colleges website, or by calling the office at 919.807.7139.

Yes. All students are assigned an advisor upon admission. You should meet with your advisor each semester to review your academic plan and select courses before registering
Registration for Fall, Spring, and Summer terms typically opens March 1 each year. Check the Academic Calendar for exact dates.
Forsyth Tech will only recognize high school diplomas from regionally accredited schools, private high schools, or home schools properly registered with the state. Students not completing such a program must complete the High School Equivalency or attain an Adult High School diploma through an accredited institution. Please contact the Admissions Office at 336.734.7556 or admissions@forsythtech.edu if you have questions regarding Forsyth Tech accepting your online high school diploma.

Admissions
Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked admissions and registration questions. If the information you need isn’t listed below, you can contact us via email at admissions@forsythtech.edu or by phone at 336.734.7195.
In this case, you would indicate that you wish to be considered as a Special Credit student on the application. Special Credit means that you are not working towards a degree, diploma or certificate at this time. Should that change in the future, any applicable classes you take will still be counted towards graduation. Special Credit students are not required to submit official transcripts, however you are required to meet any course prerequisite before being eligible to register. If you are meeting the prerequisite by previous college coursework, you must provide at least an unofficial copy of your college transcript to register. Please note that Special Credit students are not eligible for financial aid. Find information regarding the registration process for Special Credit students here.
If you have not attended classes in the past year (2 semesters not including summer), you must submit a new application and be approved for admission before you will be eligible to register. If you have been a student in the past 5 years, your previously submitted transcripts should still be on file. If you have been away for more than 5 years, you may be required to resubmit your transcripts.
Yes. If you have applied and been admitted within the past 2 semesters, you will need to complete an Update Form in the Admissions Office. If it has been longer than a 2 semesters (not including summer) since you were admitted, you will need to complete a new application. Applications are available online. If you have questions, please contact the Admissions Office.
If you earned the certificate of completion in North Carolina or received your certificate of completion in another state, you must earn your High School Equivalency prior to being accepted into a curriculum program at Forsyth Tech. If you are 18 years of age or older, you may take classes as a special credit student until the High School Equivalency has been earned. Please note: only high school graduates or High School Equivalency completers are eligible for financial aid.

There are two career assessments that we recommend you complete prior to coming to speak to a counselor.
- Career Coach is a service provided by Forsyth Tech and designed to help you find a good career by providing the most current local data on wages, employment, job postings, and associated education and training.
- Try using the career assessment tool that is available through CFNC.org. When you create your user ID /password, it will allow you to log in to CFNC.org where you can complete the assessment.
If you are still undecided after using these tools, please come to the Admissions Office and work with a counselor before you submit your application.
No, application to the college is free of charge.
Residency is no longer determined by Forsyth Tech. All students, parents, faculty, staff, and constituents of the North Carolina Community College System should refer to the Residency website at www.ncresidency.org for more current details regarding the North Carolina Residency Determination Service, processes and required residency guidelines.
To enroll in a degree, diploma or certificate program, you must be a high school graduate or have earned your High School Equivalency. You cannot be admitted to a curriculum program until you have earned your Adult High School diploma or your High School Equivalency. Both programs are available at our West Campus on Bolton Street. Please contact them directly at 336.734.7023 for further information or visit their webpage: Adult High School/High School Equivalency (HSE). If you are 18 years of age or older, you may take classes as a special credit student until the diploma or your High School Equivalency has been earned. Please note that only high school graduates or High School Equivalency completers are eligible for financial aid.
Forsyth Tech does issue I-20 documents for students to use to apply for an F-1 visa. F-1 visas are only issued for associate degree programs. For more information, visit the international student page.
Transcripts should be mailed to the Admissions Office, Forsyth Technical Community College, 2100 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. We also accept electronic transcripts from schools that use them.
Yes, these tests are not required for admission. After you submit your application, you may be advised to take the RISE placement test before registration. The RISE test is not mandatory.
Advising
Academic advising at Forsyth Tech is available to help you with your academic and career goals. Forsyth Tech offers academic advising to help students clarify their goals, plan their courses, and access resources.

Yes. All new students must complete SOAR Orientation (Success through Orientation, Advising, and Registration) before their first semester. Returning students who have been away for two or more semesters must also attend SOAR.

Yes! Advisors can refer you to Career Services, internships, and transfer resources.
Advising is offered through the Student Success Center, located in the Robert L. Strickland Center, 2nd Floor, Room 2414.

Bookstore
Forsyth Tech bookstore is guaranteed to have all the course materials on your syllabi. Here, you can buy or rent titles, and even use Financial Aid to purchase the materials you need.

- In-State (NC Residents): $76 per credit hour
- Out-of-State: $268 per credit hour
Students are charged per credit hour up to 16 hours. If you take more than 16 hours in a semester, you will not be charged beyond the cost of those 16 hours.

Blackboard
Blackboard is Forsyth Tech’s virtual hub where students can access class information, submit assignments, participate in online discussions, and check grades.
Additionally, some courses at Forsyth Tech are offered 100% online through the Blackboard learning management system, making it an essential tool for both in-person and online learners.
BlackboardBlackboard is Forsyth Tech’s online learning management system (LMS) where students can:
- Access course materials

- It serves as your virtual hub for all class information, both for in-person and online courses
- Use your Forsyth Tech credentials (Tech ID) to log in.
- It may take 24-48 hours after setting up your Tech ID before you can access Blackboard.

To access your courses on Blackboard at Forsyth Tech, first set up your Tech ID at https://short.forsythtech.edu/techid. After setup, it may take 24 to 48 hours before you can log in.
Once your Tech ID is active, log in to Blackboard using your credentials. Inside Blackboard, you can view your enrolled courses, access class materials, submit assignments, and participate in discussions directly from the dashboard. If you have trouble logging in, contact the ITS Department for assistance.

Parking & Safety
Forsyth Tech provides designated parking areas and robust campus safety services to ensure a secure and convenient environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Yes. All students, faculty, and staff must display a valid Forsyth Tech parking decal when parking on campus during operating hours. Temporary permits are available if you drive a different vehicle—request one online via Techlink or at the Campus Police Office (Forsyth Building, Main Campus).

- Staff/Faculty Lots: A, CC, CC1–CC4, D, G, HH, K, O, O-1, P, R, X, Z
- Visitor Parking: Lot B (for visitors only). Students and staff may use Visitor and Staff lots after 5:30 PM.
Purchase decals through Techlink under “College Services” or at the Campus Police Office. Additional decals can also be requested there.

Financial Aid
Forsyth Tech provides a range of financial aid options, including grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and student loans to help students afford their education.
Complete Financial Aid FAQComplete the FAFSA at https://studentaid.gov and include Forsyth Tech’s school code: 005317. Apply as soon as possible after October 1 each year. Priority deadline for Forsyth Tech is March 15 for the upcoming academic year.
- Grants: Federal Pell Grant, NC Next Scholarship (requires at least 6 credit hours).
- Scholarships: Forsyth Tech offers numerous scholarships; application period is March 15 – April 30 via https://forsythtech.academicworks.com.
- Work-Study: Jobs on campus, 10–15 hours/week, minimum wage. Requires FAFSA and financial need.
- Loans: Federal Direct Loans (must be enrolled at least half-time).
Financial aid is applied to tuition and fees first. Remaining funds are disbursed via BankMobile on scheduled Credit Balance Days (e.g., Sept 25, Oct 16, Nov 20, Dec 18 for Fall 2025). Aid for late-start classes is disbursed after attendance is verified.
Yes. Submit a new FAFSA annually after October 1.
Enrollment intensity determines how much Pell Grant and NC Next Scholarship you receive. For example:
- 12 credits = 100%
- 6 credits = 50% NC Next Scholarship requires at least 6 credits.
Yes. Aid does not cover:
- BSP courses
- Continuing Education (Economic Workforce Development)
- Audit courses
- More than 30 hours of developmental coursework
- Courses outside your program requirements
- Courses added after census date
You must complete a Consortium Agreement. Forsyth Tech requires you to be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) and the other school’s courses must count toward your Forsyth Tech program.
